About Us

A faith community dedicated to the joining of mind and spirit.

We at University United Methodist Church celebrate that all persons are created in God’s image.  We believe in the oneness with all of God’s creation and invite gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons to share our faith, our mission and our community life.  We also affirm the same for all persons without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, age, economic status, or physical or mental condition.  We are committed to the reconciliation of all persons as children of God and declare ourselves to be an open and affirming, reconciling congregation, extending hospitality and encouraging full participation by all.

Our Story

University United Methodist Church is a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural progressive Christian congregation, welcoming our surrounding community and its diversity.

We are a certified United Methodist Reconciling Congregation and welcome all to worship with us. We are here to invite, nourish and equip all in becoming disciples for Christ for the transformation of the world ‘by uniting the two so long divided – knowledge and vital faith’.

University United Methodist Church was started in 1948 as a small community of faculty and staff, dedicated to creating a faith community that would provide a church environment for students and the surrounding community. From our past to our present, we continue to work to that purpose. This church is as uniquely placed now as it was then, to stand and proclaim that vital faith and intellectual curiosity are not in competition. They, in fact, complement each other and are faithful pursuits of knowing God.

We strive to be a welcoming, authentic and dynamic worship center.
